BlackBerry outage spreads to North America (Update:They’re back, sort of)

RIM-Research In Motion-BlackBerry-Bold-Sprint

The BlackBerry service outage that affected Europe and Africa yesterday, has now spread to the United States and Canada

As reported earlier, BlackBerries around the world have been suffering from major service outages. At the time, RIM made a statement on the issue, yet network outages have now spread to North America, causing frustrations for people who rely on these smartphones for business and personal communications.

The company confirmed that a bug on a Blackberry server was responsible for knocking millions offline on Monday, and the Canadian smartphone maker elaborated on Tuesday that the continued interruption was caused by a core switch failure and a backlog of e-mails.

The outage – and RIM’s slow reaction to it – have fanned rising dissatisfaction with its co-chief executives, Jim Balsillie, and Mike Lazzaridis.

Critics have long been calling for a major shake-up, saying the top executives have let the company fall far behind Apple, Google, and Microsoft in a changing market.

As far as the outage itself goes, it’s hugely problematic that RIM, besides lacking communication about the cause of the problem, hasn’t been able to end the outage just yet. It’s also taking a serious toll on the company’s reputation.

As of today, no firm timeline has been issued as to when the outage will be resolved. For RIM’s sake, lets hope soon.

Update: We just got word that BlackBerry services (besides web browsing in Europe) are going back up across the world! I have to say, I am quite suprised. Hooray!

Hercules spotted north of the border?

Samsung-Hercules-Galay S II-Telus

Said to be launching this autumn, Samsung’s Hercules was rumored to have swerved edge and a big 4.5-in show

A purported photo of the long rumored and long awaited Samsung Hercules has been leaked to Canadian technology site Mobile Syrup. Said to be taken at a TELUS motorboat event over the weekend, the leaked shot shows a device that looks identical similar to the Samsung Galaxy S II.

According to the source who obtained the photograph, the Hercules will have a 4.5-inch test and tally Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread with TouchWiz on chapiter. Mobile Syrup reported that the device is quite nice and is a mix of the Galaxy S II, the Nexus S, and the 4.5-in Galaxy S Infuse.

Besides these specification however, everything else we knowing about the Hercules is rumored specification: a 1.2GHz concern, Android OS 2.3, a 8 megapixel camcorder with 1080p HD bolograph, and an opening 2 megapixel presence-lining camcorder. It’s all sort of up in the breath pic.

It’s ha’p'orth mentioning, as reported by TmoNews, that along with hit TELUS, the Hercules was also rumored to be launching on T-Mobile USA at some attracter. TELUS seeming to have a nack for snatching up T-Mobile variants, so I have no doubt that this is probably exactly what the T-Mobile verison will look like..

Besides me, any readers out there interested in the Hercules? What are your foremost belief of the Samsung Hercules so far?
