Google debuts Google Currents news app for Android, iOS
Google has just released Currents, a news reader app that brings your favorite RSS feeds and video streams together with over 150 partners
Google today introduced Google Currents, a mobile news reading application that competes with news readers such as Flipboard, Reeder, Pulse, and more.
Currents allows users to customize their RSS feeds and browse through stories in a magazine-style interface. It is currently available for iOS and Android devices, including both tablets and smartphones.
Currents release comes just one day after Flipboard for Apple’s iPhone and iPod touch hit the iOS App Store. Flipboard has already been a massive hit on the iPad and iPad 2.
Google partnered with 150 different publishers and is offering content from more than 180 different publications worldwide. It also provides access to “Google trending editions,” which allows users to read the five most recent trending stories of the day.
Alongside Google Currents, Google is also introducing a self-service publishing platform that allows publishers to customize their content for the web. Smaller publications with limited budgets will be able to easily ready their content for Google Currents for a very low price.
Google Currents is free and is available in the iTunes App Store and the Android Market now.
