HTC Incredible Revealed on Verizon Staging Site, To Be Called “Droid Incredible”

This is about as firm a leak as you can get: the HTC Incredible has been revealed on a Verizon staging site.
Sadly, no further specs or pricing was revealed, but the April 29th launch date that we talked about earlier is mentioned, as is the new branding for the device: The “Droid Incredible”. Not the greatest of names, no, but I’ll give the marketers extra points for consistency.
The site (found here) was revealed by AndroidForums member Zulucap, and since the initial discovery, the site has changed to reveal the updated device name and release date, so who knows what else may spring up on the site in the future?

HTC HD mini review – HD2 smartphone goodness in a smaller package
There’s a lot to love about HTC’s HD2 Windows Mobile smartphone. Maybe too much, considering its massive size. That’s where the slick new HD mini comes in, offering most all of the HD2′s features, but in a much more pocket-friendly package. Russell tests it in this in-depth review.

HTC Droid Incredible shows up on official Verizon preview page — coming April 29th (updated)
Official announcements be damned — Verizon’s just thrown up a “coming soon” preview page for the HTC Incredible. While we didn’t necessarily need any more evidence this guy was real — we’ve read its user’s manual, we’ve spied shots of it in Verizon’s system, and we’ve seen it in the wild enough times to sketch it quickly from memory with our eyes closed — it’s still exciting news to know that the inevitable unleashing of this beast is nearly upon us.
Update: They’ve changed up this page already (as you can see from our updated image) — giving us the date of April 29th. And yes, they’re calling it the Droid Incredible.
[Thanks, Ryan and James]

Android 2.1 at Fault for Nexus One Screen Issues? Droid Owners Beware!

No doubt by now you’ve heard that the screen on Google’s Nexus One is apparently worse than the screen on Motorola’s Droid.
The story goes that images on the Nexus One aint be poppin’ like they do on the Droid, and a study by DisplayMate apparently confirmed this.
But now that Droids have been updated to Android 2.1, users have begun to complain that images displayed on their Droids look about as good as they did in the Commander Keen days.
So, what’s the story?
Android Central have a post that summarises the findings, and it turns out that Droid users aren’t losing their mind, but, rather, the gallery app in Adroid 2.1 has switched from 24-bit 2D rendering to using a measly 16-bits for the 3D rendering.
It is noted in the article that the browser still renders in 24-bit (on both the Droid and the Nexus One), so at least you know that when your browsing I Can Has Cheezburger, the lolcats will look as good as possibe.
Hopefully a fix will be rolled out soon, but the gallery may render in 16-bits due to a 3D hardware limitation, so we’ll remain optimistic, but prepared for disappointment.
